Welcome to Roughfield LabradorsWe overlook Trentham Racecourse on a lovely 5 acre bush clad property called "Raceview". It backs onto a 67 hectare reserve. It's ideal for the dogs , cats, and chickens that call the place home.
My first Labrador was purchased in the early 80s from Pat Munro. After telling Pat what I wanted she delivered Max a beautiful black, not show quality but a great hunter. Our family grew up with horses, and my sisters, brother and myself spent all our time breaking in and riding over 1600 acres. We had many breeds of dogs on the farm, but Labradors were for me. In 1985 I started looking about the country for a brood bitch. She had to have substance, a great temperament, and hopefully show quality and sound. I was lucky enough to purchase a beautiful yellow from Sue Davis in Christchurch. Zara went on to become a Champion and produce Roughfield's first Champion in CH Roughfield Taste of Honey. My sister Mandy and I love Labradors. We breed very few litters each year, due mainly to working fulltime. All our stock hold current eye certificates and have been DNA tested for PRA and EIC. We only breed from sound stock, X-Rayed for Hip dysplasia and Elbow dysplasia. Temperament is at the top of our wanted list, followed closely by the true Labrador type. We import dogs from all over the world to spice up our gene pool. What we see now for us is importing frozen semen. We are proud to be able to say that we Bred & Owned & Shown Champions, both dogs and bitches in all three colours. We look forward to the future and the exciting time ahead. |
